Game of Life

A short film and an audiovisual essay on walking the right path

2015, 28 min. + 36 min.

“Sasha: This is my game time.”

Game of Life

A short film

The world of online games or stress in the gym? A twelve-year boy tries to escape the possible consequences of cerebral palsy.

Synopsis

Young Sasha works hard to strengthen the body wounded by cerebral palsy. If he endures, he might learn how to walk. Yet, the other world – the world of video games – offers an attractive and seemingly unlimited space for imagination and self-expression. What motivates the boy to get better and where does his sense of inner freedom come from?

Meeting Sasha across diverse environments, the film explores tensions the ever-present digital media introduce into the life of children and their families.

On Walking with Sasha

An audiovisual essay

„Walking is defined by an ‘inverted pendulum’ gait in which the body vaults over the stiff limb or limbs with each step.“

Synopsis

In the essay, I focus on the central topic of the film – learning how to walk – from physiotherapeutic and experiential points of view.

This analysis serves as an accompanying piece to the “Game of Life” film.
